We are one of the few services online who values our users' privacy, and have never sold your information. We have even fought hard to defend your privacy in legal cases; however, we've done it with almost no financial support -- paying out of pocket to continue providing the service. Due to the issues imposed on us by advertisers, we also stopped hosting most ads on the forums many years ago. We hope you appreciate our efforts.

Subject: Removing Forums and VoyForums User Agreement philosophy
In reply to: Dave 's message, "Does VOY.com have any restrictions on content?" on 09:31:45 06/27/01 Wed

Dear Dave,

Thank you for inquiring. Yes, we do have restrictions on content, many specifics covered in our user agreement (which is available from the Help section and the signup form). This agreement is not only a legal contract, but also a personal agreement with those of us at VoyForums -- this is our system and we have let people use it; when people violate it, they are violating our personal trust with them.

The public does not allow just anything to go on in the streets; and, in fact, there are many laws regulating this. VoyForums has been designed by us, runs on our own systems, and we must tend to it constantly -- it is not even a public street, although we allow the public to use it. In this way, like a room in your house, while people talk, sometimes debate, and sometimes fight and scream, we do not allow, in own livingrooms, prostitutes hanging around, racists making plans, bashing, etc.

It's often helpful to see how something operates in different locations. We try to extend what is natural and healthy to our system. We also extend free speech. However, many people have misconstrued this -- when we have free speech, true, we can say what we want, but if it violates someone else, don't we have to pay the concequences? What type of people fight for the right to hurt others?

All of this is especially important because VoyForums is open to anyone, which means all ages as well. As such, it should be viewable by anyone. This has even more limitations in an online system than one might think; for instance, on TV, even a useful medical program may not be well-suited for young children, so they place it at a late-hour. Are there similar means for a message board? If you think of one, let us know. B)

When a forum violates the rules of our system, we tend to warn them (by e-mail) to clean up their act. When we remove a forum without warning, we also usually send a message to inform them. We hate having to waste our time with this, but since many people don't monitor their selves, we'll at least try to keep our systems clean.

If you're still unsure, please send us an e-mail telling us details and we'll see.

Sincerely,

Brandon
