Dear Gary,

I've added an experimental option in the Display settings of the beta site: "Enable/disable features -> Reply box: Message body in subject".

This new feature needs thorough testing. We've had no other requests to add it, but since it affects normal posting as well, it all needs to be checked.

That's a bit involved, but not impossible. I will add it to the list but probably won't get to it for a while (as you expect). It's an idea I've ran into myself a few times.
