For 16F84 I recommend using lcdunit2 unit. You can find its
source in UNITS dir. In the first lines you'll find the pin connection.

See lcd4bit.pas. (of couse, you have to replace the processor definiton to 16f84)
To write only one char, use "Write('X');" .

In fact it doesn't support real multitasking, but on the Net you can find some solution for cooperative multitasking. In my opinion it doesn't worth to deal with. It's far easier to write a good program with one thread.
