Alrighty...........
I've had emails from about six of you, asking how the rest of the stay in Spain with Erin went...well, let's just say I'm still (literally) feeling the effects of it all.....so, I'm writing this post, a little mini-narrative of our adventure, until we can get together and share the stories face to face, which is, of course, the best way to share stories...
remember the hotel italia, with its weird shower doors? yeah. well, i cut my foot on the shower door the day before you all left (maybe two days, i can't really remember...). ANYHOW....i was on a mission to keep that bad boy cleaned out at all costs. turns out we didn't have a place to stay the night you guys left, but we ended up staying with an older woman who rents rooms. it was pretty nice, and the woman was great. we spent the day after you all left wandering the streets of madrid, missing you all like crazy. then we moved into our hostel....which was SO nice as far as hostels go! BUT...the one shower didn't properly drain, and I found myself up to my knees in water from the ever-so-hygenic public shower. SOOOOO....i thought it would be a GREAT idea to wash my cut foot in the sink.....which led to a horrible fall, cutting my back, bruising my body...and spraining my ankle and breaking a toe. Tried to go to the hospital, but couldn't...a long story there, too....anyhow...i spent the rest of the week hobbling through madrid with my ankle wrapped in a generic ace bandage thingie that didn't really offer much support.

we met this awesome guy, Rami, in our hostel. he lives in london, but was teaching english in spain for the summer. we plowed around with him most of the trip. we met some other kids in the hostel that were really cool---elliot and macgee, who had just graduated from high school and were touring europe, and we visited the reina sofia with them *for the sheer purpose of riding the elevators up and down and up and down and up and down....in memory of chadd....*
we tried to lay low that week, due to the ankle situation, but we still had fun. we went to night zoo, which is basically an over-glorified dolphin show (although, since i don't remember ever seeing a dolphin show before, i must admit that i found the whole blessed event to be rather fascinating!!!), and had to walk home through this really scary park that was filled with prostitutes and dealers...but, we survived.....

we also had these REALLY scary girls in our room in the hostel who had just come from amsterdam the night before, and thought that it was really great to sit on the bunk beds and do lines of coke together...a bit nerve-wracking, i must admit.

one thing that i really did notice while in the hostel is how idiotic americans look and act compared to the other people in europe....although i must admit, even with all 33 of us drudging through the streets, we still didn't come off quite as idiotic as some of the girls in our hostel....

so, we had fun. but we were also very glad to see the day when returned home come. the flight was good---we got special seating because my foot had to be elevated throughout the flight, which was pretty darn nice!

more stories to come at the reunion......

.megan., whose ankle is still tender....
