Something was different, but she wasn't sure what. She listened carefully for any noise that could have awakened her, but all was quiet except for the occasional sound of a passing animal. Then she realized what it was...it was quiet! The storm was over! She peeked her head out of the den to see the beginning of the sunset. A small howl escaped her throat. The beauty was so much that it was painful. And, in a way, it was sad, because now winter would be starting. There would be no more sunshine for 100 days straight. As she watched, shoots of red, orange, burgundy, pink, and yellow spread slowly across the sky. Soon there was nothing but red and the dark, steady blue of dusk. She chewed slowly on the hare, finishing it as she watched the sunset. It was so beautiful--she wanted to remember it forever. She would not see another sunset for a year.
