She was starting to become faint from lack of food, and trotting slowly across the ground, she searched for game. Suddenly, up ahead she saw a big hump of something lying on the ground--and her nose told her it was dead caribou! Breaking into a run, she reached the caribou, chased away the arctic fox that was feeding on it, and settled down to eat, swallowing chunks of meat that weighed almost a pound with each bite. Slowly, the hunger started to fade away, and her stomach swelled and became full. Rolling over onto her back, she rested, glad for the chance to have eaten. Glancing at the caribou, she knew there was enough there for a week or more if she was the only one who ate it.
