Georgy Russell, 26, the youngest candidate in the run for California governor, spoke to a political science class Thursday about technology use in globalization and her campaign plans.

"I felt like [running for governor] was an opportunity to run on things that I think are important," said Russell, who also goes on to mention that her most popular marketing items are men's boxers and thong underwear.

Reading from her laptop, Russell discussed why open store software, a free operating system and an alternative to Microsoft, would be helpful in globalization.

More people can have access to computers because you buy the program once and license it on as many computers as you want, unlike Microsoft where it costs hundreds of dollars to install the program on individual computers, she said.

"We may be made to challenge corporate America, technology wise," Russell said.

In addition to being a spokesperson for open-store software, Russell also answered students' questions about her political stance.

"My political experience is just normal, I watch C-SPAN," she said. "I just stuck to the tech sector."

Russell plans to improve the state's budget problems by taxing revenue made at Indian Casinos, levying a tax for SUV owners, legalizing and taxing marijuana, as well as temporarily taxing the wealthy. Russell said she will drop college tuition prices. She wants to make community colleges free, and she wants to improve public schooling.

"I really see fee hikes as a slap in the face from Gray Davis," she said.

The Democrat, who is often mistaken for a green-party member, thinks the 3-strikes law is unfair and fails to defer crime. She pointed out that $90 million is spent on the death sentence every year, money that can be used for a greater purpose during the state's bust.

Russell believes that if marijuana is legalized, the government will be able to regulate it. Therefore, there will be a new tax to bring in more money for the state. It is all part of her two-fold plan to rebuild California.

"My political experience is just normal, I watch C-SPAN."
