Subject: interested in global risk management?

have a look at this link:
http://www.garp.com/events/download/GARP2004BrochureW.pdf

GARP is the Global Association of Risk Professionals... which is fancy banking speak for "the people who run the world banking system." You can see that represented in the speaker list are governors from bank boards and federal reserve systems... this really is a core group, and i may attend... i'm not decided about the New York part...

Banks have 2 parts operationally, the sales people (which is every person you've ever met in retail banking) and the risk management people who are the dark shadows behind those people... deciding if you are a good risk or a bad one, whether your country is a good risk or a bad one, your industry and your currency... these people's spin on life is the main unelected control that people are totally ignorant of.

Garp has made a noble attempt to include anyone who wants to join, and i have been a garp member for years now having myself designed risk management systems for large banks... and having a continued interest in the definition of "risk" as seen running the global finance system.

If any WTO protestor who has grey matter to be constructive, it is worth considering... especially if you know mathematics... as in truth, risk management is a very maths /economics oriented. No matter what the fancy speak, all risk management ends up as "pay money" or "recieve money" at the end of the day. Operational risk is the type of issue that took down arthur andersen.. how to monitor an organization with mathematical models to discover failures...

Just perhaps someone here who is interested in the REAL world government... they might find it interesting to meet a federal reserve board governor face to face... and so on... Garp events are quite neat... in london they serve wine... unfortunately new york will be dry.. ;-)

cheers,
