If your owner's manual is similar to this one from a Canadian 2002 Kia Spectra ( http://www.kia.ca/web/pdf/owners/2002_Spectra_Owners_Manual_EN.pdf ), you are correct. The 'R' Required indicator isn't shown for the transmission fluid like it is in my 2004.5 Spectra's manual. There isn't any kind of line item for the transmission fluid at all!! Not even the usual 'I' Inspect line like other items.

I do think you need to press Kia on this one then.... Your manual doesn't list it as a "gotta have", thus you were not communicated to on the subject. I don't have a lot of sympathy for the people who purposely ignore the require maintenance schedule. But... if it isn't even listed, then I don't see how Kia expects an owner to know that.

I think you have a case. Press them on this, and don't be afraid to mention that you'll get a lawyer.
