You can further check what France and Russia are doing to aid the auto industry. This isn't a limited to the US. It's international.

In our area there are at least two or three dozen auto parts business in a 20 mile radius and they are NOT suffering a lack of business. Every used car lot it full of used cars as are dealerships for those who can't afford new cars. There are three junk yards (all of them full) in a ten mile radius and there's an auto auction here in town with a brisk business.
