Subject: Catchin' up.

It's been a busy time around our house, mostly going from one chaos to another that's left me drained. If you remember, our youngest son, Jeff, was injured at work with a fork lift. That was July 15. Now, six months later and an EMG and complete body scan, one broken bone hasn't healed and a piece of another broke off but the docs don't know where it went. So next week, he'll find out when reconstructive surgery and a bone graft will take place. The EMG revealed extensive damage to the soft tissue and a diminishing blood supply. Don't know what they'll do about that. However, his orthopaedist is one of seven in the entire state who qualifies for reconstructive surgery on the ankle and foot.

Ny spinal arthritis has increased in volume and pain. Tried a steroid epidural the 13th and that was followed by four totally sleepless nights and only two or three hours the other nights, none of them in bed but sitting in my living room chair and feet and legs on a large foot stool. The epidural didnt work this time so the doc has arranged an appointment for Friday with an orthopaedic surgeon for spinal surgery. I also have a hernated disc. That's the only option left and although I'm a bit nervous about it (my kids are freaking out), I can't handle the pain anymore. When there's no quality of life left, one will consider anything.

At the same time, we are truly blessed in having our youngest daughter and son, our youngest son and his three living here. Laurie has taken over cooking evening meals and helping out. Jeff, despite his injury and still wearing a brace takes care of many errands and especially that first pot of coffee, made before we get up. I'm blessed with our now 22-year-old grandson (Jeff's son) who hovers, asking if there's anything I need of anything he can do. And little Randy, our grandson with dwarfism, asking if he can help me clean or if he cam dust for me.

I guess the lesson is there's always a bright side and God always leaves a window cracked open and one can always find something to be grateful for.

Politics has taken a back seat for me and I've barely kept up with the usual battles.

Take care and look on the bright side.
