Miss USA 2009, the 58th Miss USA pageant will be held on April 19, 2009, at the Theatre for the Performing Arts in Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. The winner will be crowned by outgoing titleholder Miss USA 2008, Crystle Stewart of Texas.

The event will be hosted by Billy Bush of Access Hollywood and actress Nadine Velazquez; Bush is returning to host the pageant which he last emceed in 2005. He had previously co-hosted Miss USA 2003 with Daisy Fuentes and Miss USA 2004-2005 with Nancy O'Dell. Entertainment will be provided by Kevin Rudolf who will be performing "Let It Rock" during the swimsuit competition and The Veronicas will perform "Untouched" during the evening gown competition.
Delegates representing the fifty states plus the District of Columbia will compete in the pageant, and will arrive in Las Vegas on April 2. The winner will represent the United States at the Miss Universe 2009 pageant.

His contest has over the several years that it has been held offered no tangible or evident tourism promotional opportunities or benefits to the host nations, none of the main stream pageant website forums or blogs give or have given any coverage what so ever to Miss Tourism World, as a contest it is simply seen as the biggest joke in pageantry! And if you even mention Miss Tourism world you will literally be laughed off a board. It leaves only debts, law suits, girls who are never paid prizes, and a two week long sexual escapade with the contestants for his entourage who sample the girls in their brand of pre-judging and demand to be housed in 5 star luxury at the host countries expense. Case in point Miss Tourism World in Antalya Turkey 2007 where he assembled 57 Models and go-go dancers and handed out titles from all his pageants in one night, making a mockery of his statement as the largest organizer of beauty pageants in the world. No doubt John Singh will be laughing all the way to the bank again, whist the almost bankrupt Govt government of Tanzania is left to ponder what hit them, so the big CON ....test continues......mean while tourism officials in Kyrgyzstan did their home work, got wise found out about him and his company and put a stop to his charade and attempt to fleece them out of $3million, but it seems like the Tourism officials in Tanzania seem stuck on stupid, of fascinated by seeing White girls in bikinis parade in front of them .... your guess is as good as mine [ Post a Reply to This Message ]

She's definitely the woman of beauty and substance. beauty queen Danielle Kirsten Muriel Castaño, the country's official representative to the Miss World 2008 said that she hopes to be the first Miss World from the Philippines.

Castaño is off to Johannesburg, South Africa this coming Saturday, November 15 to compete in 57th Miss World Beauty Pageant, which will be held on December 13 at Sandton Convention Center.

Castaño, the beauty with a purpose, admitted that she really feels the pressure to bring the first Miss World crown in the country but promised that will give all her best to win in the said the prestigious competition."I think the pressure is wala pang naging Miss World from the Philippines and I would like to be the first Miss World from the Philippines," Castaño told abs-cbnNEWS.com in an interview during her send-off party at the Mandarin Suites at the Gateway Mall in Cubao. Castaño who will be competing against 106 other candidates from all over the world also shared her excitement to represent the country and proved that Filipinas soar high when it comes to beauty and substance."I'm so excited because I will be competing at Johannesburg in South Africa and I'm ready so I can't wait," she said.

The beauty queen said that as part of her preparations for the pageant she's been training a lot of things especially for the question and answer portion. She also undergoes training in catwalk skills and personality development with topnotch experts, she also learn how to put on her make up and other stuff she needs to as the official candidate to Miss World.

"Binibining Pilipinas was a training too when I was a candidate so I think that help too. And kahit na yung time (sa preparation) kasi pumasok ako sa school alam ko handa ako ito yung ginusto ko at nasa puso ko ang pag-compete abroad. I really want to be in this place," she said.

When asked on what she thinks will be the hardest part of the pageant, Castaño replied: "I think everything is difficult but with the help of other Binibining Pilipinas and with the help of people who are training me I would say that it's my pleasure and I'm just happy that they'd been helping me. Maybe I should not say it's difficult because I'd been working hard for this and this is what I want."

Castaño who was born abroad but raised here in the country said that she believes in destiny adding that she's destined to be in the upcoming pageant. She also shared that aside from her fellow countrymen her biggest inspiration for the pageant is her loving mother, the woman she considered as her hero and the wind beneath her wings.Castaño also said that her strongest point to win the pageant is that the fact that she doesn't give up."My strongest point is I don't give up and lagi akong palaban and dapat when I get there in competition I should always think positive which how I am right now and for the whole pageant as well," she told the news site.

The 19-year-old beauty was raised in the country's shoe capital -- Marikina City but currently residing in Quezon City. She's also an athlete and excels in volleyball and track and field. Being the eldest of three sisters, Castaño also holds a soft spot in her heart for sick and abused children. She said that she want to be remembered as someone who did something socially significant for the underprivileged.

'I love Janina'. Castaño made headlines when Binibining Pilipinas organizers announced that she will be replacing the controversial Janina San Miguel as the country's official representative to Miss World.During the interview, Castaño said that there's no pressure for her replacing the original Miss Philippines-World but she stressed that she hopes that San Miguel will find happiness wherever she maybe."I wish Janina all the best and just keep praying and I hope to see you soon and I love you," she said.

Castaño told the news site that she wasn't able to find time to meet and to talk to San Miguel. "Actually hindi ko pa siya nakakausap so hindi ko po alam," she said.It will be recalled that "Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc. (BPCI) announced last September 29, that Ms. Janina San Miguel has resigned as official representative to the 2008 Miss World beauty pageant.San Miguel won the Binibining Pilipinas Ms. World despite having difficulty answering a judge's question in English.

Report said that the untimely demise of San Miguel's grandfather, among other personal reasons, has caused her undue stress, thus hindering her from fulfilling her duties for the said title."In accordance with BPCI rules and regulations, 1st Runner-Up Danielle Castaño will replace Ms. San Miguel as the official Philippine representative to the Ms. World 2008 pageant," Belle Baldoza, public relations officer of the Araneta Group said.

Castano who also looks like the beauty titlist-turned actress Riza Santos said that she's not yet determined if she will join the showbiz after the competition.Before the interview end, Castaño just appealed for the support and prayers of her fellow Filipinos as she competes for the 2008 Miss World."Thank you po sa lahat ng suporta niyo sa akin and prayers and I hope that I will bring home the bacon, well -- for sure I will bring home the bacon and I will just make everyone proud. Thank you so much," Castaño ended.

Meriam George (born 1987 in Cairo, Egypt) was the official Pantene Miss Egypt 2005 titleholder, at age 18. She represented Egypt in Miss Earth 2006, where she was among the eight finalists, and in Miss Intercontinental 2005, where she was a semi-finalist. She also represented Egypt in the Miss Universe 2005 pageant.

Born to a Coptic Orthodox family, Meriam studies business administration at the Modern Academy in Cairo. She also works part-time as a model. She aspires to become either a business woman or a TV presenter. Her other interests include astrology, singing, and playing the piano and the flute.

I have to say that the whole production reeked of local Filipino pageant than one of an international calibre. There were one or two high points, but the overwhelming lows far outweighed anything of interest in this the pageant.The hosts of the show were atrocious! WEAK TOP 4 - REHEARSED ANSWERS Apart from that, I think that the top 4 were quite weak in terms of beauty, but nevertheless Tanzania stood out by far. The final question was about addressing Obama on environmental problems, and it was obvious that this question was chosen in the hopes that the international media might pick up on it. It was a very specific question addressed to a specific world leader and it required a specific reply. Unfortunately, all the girls regurgitated their memorised answers. No one thought to incorporate Obama's "CHANGE" slogan into their answers. The eventual winner, Miss Philippines, regurgitated her answer the best, her part-Canadian roots naturally putting her at an advantage when it came to speaking in English. She sounded totally rehearsed and, unlike Miss Tanzania, Miss Mexico & Miss Brazil, gave her well-practised delivery without any slip-ups. PHILIPPINES - CANADA : THE MESTIZAS Miss Earth 2007 was a Canadian who had a Filipino father. Miss Earth 2008 was a Filipina who had a Canadian father. No surprises then that the general public in the Philippines, and most of the people writing/blogging about ME (ie. Filipinos) think that they were deserving of their wins because of their outstanding Mestiza beauty. Mestizas are cherished in the Philippines because they tend to have Caucasian features like fair skin, big eyes, a nose with a well-defined bridge, etc. Many are raised to idol status. However, to non-Filipino eyes, these mestizas are not the godesses Filipinos hold them to be. They're a dime a dozen in South American countries and few would give them a second glance. In any case, this explains the idolatry that goes on in the Philippines when it comes to mestizas. There were quite a few stunners in Miss Earth this year, but not all made the cut. The cut from top 8 to top 4 was the most puzzling. I guess Miss Philippines was the best among the Top 4, but that does not speak much for her, as she was sporting well-developed love-handles during the swimsuit round. Overall, Miss Earth seems to be going downhill in terms of production values and crown holders, not to mention beauty. I only look forward to watching Miss Universe and Miss World now, as these two pageants still produce the most stunning winners and first-class productions. [ Post a Reply to This Message ]

CONGRATULATIONS to Karla Paula Henry of the Philippines for winning the Miss Earth crown for Asia. Finally, Asia is represented!!!!

It was Miss Philippines’ night even before the announcement of the top 4 when she nailed the swimsuit and parading in a beautiful gown which is entirely different from her prelim gown. Her answer in the final question sealed her to the Miss Earth title. I personally was rooting for Miss Tanzania but she over-extended her answer to the question and lost her composure. Indeed, Karla gave the best answer that night. A well deserved win for the Philippines! OMG it’s like a Denise Quinones flashback when she won the Miss Universe crown at her native Puerto Rico.
