Wow, do I ever remember that day. I just happened to be running late that day and had the news on as I always do. I saw the plane crash into the second tower and could not believe what I was seeing....My first thought was that I had to get to the office to check on my children and my staff, I don't know why, I just felt responsible....My second thought was of my mother and my brothers, one who travels all over the country for an insurance company in Overland Park, and my other who works in D.C. (This is before I heard about the Pentagon.) I got to my office and my staff had not heard. I explained as quickly as I could but asked them to shield the children. I then began getting phone calls from parents and parents came to get their children....most were crying...I found one of my brothers, talked to my mom who was crying and found out that my other brother was to be working in the Pentagon that day....my heart sank as I heard this and I didn't have the courage to call my mom or my brothers to tell them...the brother we couldn't find is my hero, never married, 16 years older than I and the greatest man I have ever met, it took two days to find him, he was okay, but in those two days I thought a lot about what life would be like without him, how empty my mother would feel, all of us would feel. But at the same time, I thought about what I had just learned in my Theology class, about Islam, about how they believe so much, and hearing people say that this senseless act was about God or Allah, this was not what I had learned and I contacted my professor to ask, "What is right, what is true..." I know she told me the truth.

I don't know how we can communicate better to keep these things from happening, I can't make sense out of people believing that killing is ever the right way, but I am not sure that talking with those who believe it is would make a difference either. I don't know that in this sense there is a right way. I just believe that these people believe that their way is the only way.

What would I say to those that lost loved ones.....I am so very sorry.......I don't know your pain, I can't offer you guidance, I can't even tell you that I understand, but I can tell you that I am with you, I feel pain as well for the hard lessons that we have learned throught this tradgedy and for the truth, the unbearable truth, that this has taught us about others...
