I would have gone about it another way. Instead of telling your boss to go check his figures, you think it may be wrong. Well no one likes it when you tell him or her they are wrong. I would have asked him/her to explain the figures to me because I don't understand what they mean so I could be more effective with the presentation. If after he/she explained it to me and I still felt he/she was changing the figures, if I had enough time I would investigate the numbers myself to figure out how he/she got those numbers. If in deed they were wrong I would tell him/her my figures and how I got them and ask to explain it one more time because I still didn't understand and I wouldn't want to be the one to mess up his/her presentation. If I didn't have enough time to do this I would explain to my boss that I don't want to lose my job that I would be glad to do things for him/her but I could not live with myself if I was lying to other people. There is a saying in business, just because your ignorant to the law doesn't mean you are not expected to abide by the law, and will be held accountable to the law. I wouldn't want to be like the people who are getting prosecuted now for corporate screw-ups by trying to point my finger and saying he/she made me do it. If they told me to jump off a bridge or lose my job, I'd rather lose my job. I was told you can have everything taken from you except for your knowledge and in time you can get everything back that you had once before because you have the knowledge to start over again.
