The familiar flicker of his ever present temper surged at her words of the 'Great Shadowlord' beating her, and her brother helping him. But as he'd grown older, he'd learned that not always was expressing you temper a good thing to do. So it was held in check, even though the flame flickered in his eyes. It sounds to me as if the Shadowlord is afraid of someone being stronger and greater than he is. Something that you are. And with his words, he proved that wisdom had followed his experiences as well.....
