Subject: Lesions or Absesses

My mother's rottie has a thyroid disorder that makes her prone to more conditions than most. But she has large pus and blood filled lesions/absesses on her legs, (around the joints), and smaller ones around her chin. She is constantly licking at them and seems to be in some discomfort. I've read about everything from allergies to foxtail infections, and nothing quite fits. Other than lancing them from time to time, my mother is at a loss of what to do. The vet gave her a course of antibiotics and this did nothing. These areas are covered with a very thick, hairless patch of skin. We're unsure if that is part of the condition or a symptom of the constant licking and infection. If anyone can offer new ideas about this please let me know via e-mail at Bridgette289@yahoo.com. Thank you.
