A day before the draft, the Yellowknife Blades were contacted by Saskatoon GM Ken Mckenna who inquired if the team was ready for the draft. The Blades were ready, but unexcited and unimpressed with the talent after round one. So, after little discussion, Blades GM Neil Hayes struck a deal with the Silos.

Gone to the Silos are Steeltown's 2nd rounder and Edmonton's 3rd rounder. In return, the Blades received Saskatoon's 3rd round picks in 2008 and 2009.

While at first glance it seems the team essentially traded a 2nd round pick for a later 3rd round pick, this doesn't bother Hayes.

"We feel that the talent in future drafts will probably be better than what we have this year. We believe we can draft someone talented with the picks in 2008 and 2009 and we are excited to acquire these picks.

With no picks left in this years draft, Yellowknife ca focus all its attention to the upcoming season. It is rumored some players may be traded but those rumors were neither confirmed nor denied by Blades GM Neil Hayes.

"I have no comment at this time".
