It would appear today that Blades GM Neil Hayes is certainly not afraid to make monster trades. Hayes made yet another blockbuster trade in a season that has seen almost the entire Blades team dismantled and retooled.

Looking for more firepower and some more defense, Hayes acquired exactly that. For firepower up front, Hayes acquired one of the leagues best snipers in Pavel Bure. Bure has an expensive contract and is expected to become a free agent after this season but his talents were too great to pass on.

"We've been a little weak on the right side all season" commented Hayes. "We have put ourselves in position to be able to take on salary through other trades and we felt a player of Bure's calibre could be what this team needs to make the playoffs."

On the defensive end, the Blades have upgraded their goaltending, adding all-star Ed Belfour. Belfour also comes with a high price tag but the rumour is some of the contract has been paid for already.

Sean Hill also comes to the Blades to try and help the Blades attrocious defense. The Blades currently have one of the worst goals against in the GWHL and the problem hasn't been goaltending.

Going to Edmonton was Niklas Havelid, Saskatoon's 2009 3rd rounder, and a draft pick Hayes fought a losing battle to keep, Whitehorse's 2007 1st rounder.

The Blades paid alot, but also received 3 players that may be able to put the Blades in the playoffs.

"Anytime you can improve your offense, defense, and goaltending in one fell swoop, you think seriously about the offer. We did, we made a decision, and we are pleased to move forward with the new players joining Yellowknife."
