Montreal, PQ - In the words of Montreal GM Sean Gallagher, "you know it's a rough season when 5-5 is an upward trend."

But the Marauders have reason for hope. Recent acquisitions Martin Brodeur, Ilya Kovalchuk, Olli Jokinen and Alex Kovalev have all played well, while new defensemen Al MacInnis and Ed Jovanovski have started to settle down a bit.

"We're confident that we can still make a run," said Gallagher, "and if I have to add pieces, I will."

It's rumored that the Marauders are still searching for some defensive-minded blueliners and a two-way pivot for the third line.

"We'll keep looking," said Gallagher, " and we'll keep believeing that a playoff berth gives us a chance. I know that [Coach John Tortorella] Torts believes it. It's just a matter of making our players believe it."
