(Halifax)-It took some time and in the end a small change in the package, but finally a deal was comsumated last night between the Halifax Harpoons and the Whitehorse Warriors that saw the 'poons come away with the Warriors 1st rounder in 2011.

Going to the Whitehorse in the trade were prospects Alexander Auld and Jiri Hudler along with minor league defenseman Matthias Timander.

"All three of the assets we traded for the first rounder were expendable," explained GM Stephen J. Holodinsky. "Alexander Auld and Antero Nitimakii would both be turning pro at roughly the same time and with Roberto already taking up one slot we could only protect one of them in the waiver draft, so it was better to move Auld now and get something for him then losr him for nothing."

"As for Hudler, although we think he will be an explosive player, we are very well stocked at center and we like our pivots with size, the one thing he doesn't have."

"Timander, who we signed as a free agent, was never in our plans as far as playing for the pro team, basically being in Dartmouth to tutor Alexei Semenov."

As per usual with a trade that involves a draft pick, one can never tell if the deal was a good one or not until the pick is used and that player has had time to develop. As this pick is in 2011, it looks like we will be in for a long wait.
