The routine check this registry key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AcroExch.Document\AcrobatVersion The old versions of Acrobat have this key but the V7 no So if this key is not present the version is V7. You probably have not uninstalled the old version before the new one installation or the uninstall procedure failed to remove this key. To resolve the problem just remove the key.
