Sounds like you grew up in a pretty sane household, where you were able to learn responsibility and hard work. The messages given to your brother about crying and keeping his emotions in are so widely seen in the male gender. I think it has lessened a little in recent times, but there is still a need to erase such a stigmatized male gender belief. I am not saying I would like to be with a man who cries about everything, but it is healthy to show some emotions and men should be able to do that without feeling like less of a man. On a different note, I think it is really cool that you were able to learn from both your mother and father and had support throughout your life from both. I did not get that while growing up, so it's always good to hear good family life stories.
