I believe that you can begin to form a bond with your baby before he/she is even born. However, I do not think that mother's who are unable to hold their baby right after birth lose their ability to bond with their baby. While I think that the best time is immediately after birth I do not think it makes/breaks the chance to have a close relationship with the baby. I felt overwhelming love for my babies as soon as I knew I was pregnant and I feel like the bonding for me began at that time. I was fortunate to be with both my children immediately after birth and for me being able to nurse them right away was what made me feel closer to them.
