Subject: ASSIGNMENT 3

As a teacher I would construct a system of cognitive growth according to Piaget's theory. Within the sensorimotor stage I would have a lot of interactive stations set up for the children in which they could listen, touch, taste, smell, and see what they were learning through games and fun. For example to learn their ABC's I would create a sing-along song in which it had movements to better excite them to learning them. Or at lunch time I would have foods with color (ie. oranges, apples, etc.) to help them learn their colors. Within the preoperation stage I would create a system of hand-ons experiments to help them better differentiate conservation and egocentrism by having them working together in groups and creating critical thinking assignments to better stimulate their thought processes. During the concrete operations stage I would develop activities that would help them think deeper than surface by introducing them to philosophy and having them observe their environment from positions in which they would most likely not. Also I would strengthen their sense of logic by creating a scientific learning curriculum in which they would have to think more critically. For example I would tie in math to science, science to social studies, social studies to English, and so on. During the formal operations stage I would have them to embrace abstract thought through incorporations of poetry, art, history, and literature. I would have them open up more to self-expression by having them do portfolios of their life and goals in reference to society, religion, politics, and nature.
