Subject: Assignment 2 / Corporal Punishment

Here are two links that discuss corporal punishment: http://www.corpun.com/ and http://www.religioustolerance.org/spanking.htm

Personally, I have known corporal punishment to be effective, Howver, my parents were very disciplined as to how they would administer the punishment. There are many cases in society where individuals come from abusive environments, therefore causing many of these abused individuals to ignore this type of punishment.

I do not believe that there is one correct answer to the question of using corporal punishment, however I do believe that it should be an option for schools to use, but only with the permission of a parent/gaurdian.

The act of corporal punishment as a tool for disciplining a child, in my opinion, losses it's effectiveness as the adolescent gets older. For example, corporal punishment (again in my opinion) would serve better as a disciplining tool for a child in an Elementary school then it would for a teenager in High school.

With keeping corporal punishment as an option for scholls, I believe that there should be controled steps of action to take before administering this punishment, as well as a single staff member to administer the punishment.

As far as teachers and nurses using corporal punishment, I believe that if there is an incident which calls for a teacher/nurse to call for this punishmentthen they should present their case to the appropriate superior, who would then decide what action to take. Under no circumstances, I believe, should any teacher, nurse, or any other school official be given the righ tto administer corporal punishment as an "at will" tool of discipline.
