Subject: Corporal Punishment

I found an interesting website about corporal punishment. It was religioustolerance.org/spanking and it featured bible readings that were related to the subject and had many people's points of view about corporal punishment. The main theme of the website was against it. I am against corporal punishment, also. I do not have any children myself but I was never spanked as a child. I feel that it really does not do any good for the child or influence behavior any more effectively than other means, such as positive and negative reinforcement. If you can teach the child a lesson and be firm in not letting them do something that they wanted to do, then I feel that they will learn more from the situation. I do feel that there is a difference in parents and teachers spanking children. If parents choose to spank their children, that is their own decision and they have a right to raise their child in any way that they feel is right. However, teachers are there to teach the children, and definitely should not be allowed to punish them in this way. I would not want any teacher to physically harm my child no matter what the child had done. There is no difference in teachers and nurses-both hold the same role in a childs development and should not be allowed to harm someone else's child. They should only be concerned with the child's health-not raising him.
