Subject: Eating Disorders

Yes, I think that eating disorders should be a topic of discussion for this class. All of us in the class are going in to or already are in some type of people-helping field and each one of us may have experience with it. Nurses, doctors, and teachers are faced with this and many other disorders everyday. It is not uncommon for children, mainly teenagers to develop an eating disorder so that they can look just like one of the models on tv or in the magazines. I have no personal experience with this, but I saw the long term effects that it had on my aunt after her high school gymnastics coach told her she was "fat". She experimented with all types of drugs and alcohol and suffered from bulimia and anorexia both until her death. I believe that eating disorders are very important to learn about so that we as educators and healthcare providers can hopefully save lives.
