Subject: Eating Disorders

I feel that it is very important to cover this issue because in any profession in which you deal with people you might need to have some background information in this area. I have actually known plenty of people who have had eating disorders. These were mainly people that were cheerleaders and even some people I played basketball with. I know it sounds crazy but our cheerleaders use to have a coach that weighed them every week.So every person would get weighed on Monday and for every pound gained over their required weight they ran a mile. So many of these girls were forced into having eating disorders and in a way they thought this made them better athletes. Luckily I had no personal problem with this because I wanted to be a good athlete but not that bad.And let me say that is not what makes a person a good athlete. In my mind it wasn't worth missing a meal over and my mother raised me with the thought that I am beautiful with or without love handles. I truly believe that if more parents would show their children that beauty is not all about how much you weigh eating disorders wouldn"t happen as often as they do.
