Subject: MORAL DEVELOPMENT

I would say according to Paiget's theory, I'm in the 4th Stage, Formal operations. According to Kohlberg's theory, I think I'm in Level 3, the Post-conventional stage and with regards to his sub-stagess, 1 through 6 applies. After reading both theories, I wanted more options. I don't think there was enough exploration on the effects of other influences. Piaget's requirement for the fourth stage is abstract, idealistic, and a logical way of thinking. I agree that education plays an important role in one's ablity to process information in this manner and to do so in a more advance manner then when one would think as a adolescent. Also, I think one's life experiences can influences one's moral development as well. Piaget's view's on moral reasoning; heteronomous and autonomous are age specific but I think those views transcend throughtout the human life-span, some justice and rules are unchangeable. As a rule, cheating is never exceptable. I agree, in moral developement one's intent to do wrong and that there are consequences are presented to us at an early age. We are influenced by our peers and our relationship with others, be it church, school or the community. We are always changing what we do today, we may not do tommorrow. I found the theories to be filled with facts but, I felt that there were other avenues to be explored. We all have it in us to do what is right and what is wrong. For some of us the struggle is harder than for others. For us who do the right thing today, we pray that tommorrow want bring about a situation that will lead to an immoral decision. Religion influences the choices that I make and that is based on my up-bringing. I fall short sometimes in my decision making but, I think the good out weights the bad. I'm still growing emotionally and spritually.
