This is a great opportunity for a full-time scholarship, stipend, insurance, internship, and full-time job upon graduation...good luck to all who apply!

Online applications are now being accepted for the 2009 Science, Mathematics and Research for Transformation (SMART) portion of the National Defense Education Program. The SMART Scholarship for Service Program is an opportunity for students pursuing undergraduate or graduate degree in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) academic disciplines to receive a full scholarship and post graduation employment. The program aims to increase the number of civilian scientist and engineers to address the critical technical needs for the entire Department of Defense. Individuals applying to the program should have a strong interest in working for DOD as a civilian research scientist or engineer. Applications are being accepted through the SMART website at http://www.asee.org/smart/. All applicants are required to submit applications online by 5:00 P.M. EST, December 15, 2008.

Participants in the SMART Scholarship for Service Program receive
* Full tuition and education related fees
* Stipend ranging from $25K-$41K depending on prior educational experience
(stipend may be prorated depending on award length)
* Paid summer internships
* Health Insurance
* Book allowance of $1,000 per academic year
* Mentoring
* Employment placement after graduation
