Subject: Regarding Maggie's Questions

I totally agree that there is no reason to raise our dues this year.
The Board did lie when they said water and sewer would be going up...that is absolutely not true. There will be no increase from the water company. I also agree that the pool should be heated during the 3 winter months in question because that is an amenity that we pay for in our dues that keep rising.....why are they rising if we are getting less. I do not believe that any of the board members ever use the pools (except our newest member, Ken, who needs to use it for medical reasons...and he voted against not heating it).
However, as far as the pay for the employees, they are not paid the amounts indicated. I was told that one of the girls makes $12.50 and hour, one makes $8.00 an hour and the one that just quit made $8.50 an hour. Several of the maintenance workers make minimum wage and never get a regular raise because the minimum wage keeps going up. I don't have any idea what the Maintenance Manager makes but I would assume it would be less than Seth made. Two of the maintence men (the Lead and the Supervisor) make above minimum wage but have been there for over 8 years and they deserve whatever they make. My calculations indicate that the budget is probably at least $15,000 over what it should be in this category. There are nine maintenance employees and three office personnel. The Farm personnel are not paid what they should be paid for the jobs they do in relation to the area which is one of the underlying reasons that so many leave.
As far as the Gazette goes, the Gazette makes money for the FPOA even though it sends out Gazettes to ex-farmers and use an outside printer. They are not an expense but a money-maker.
I think there should, however, be excess funds from this year because the Farm Fair was budgeted in and it did not happen and I don't think that it has made money in the past, it has been an expense (I don't think it is very much.) I don't mind that expense because it is a wonderful day for all and is a tradition, but there should be extra money left over this year. It is budgeted for next year in case someone wants to take it over.
I was happy you came to the meeting becaue it is usually just the same 15-20 people that come, I like to see more of the community getting involved.

I believe that last year with the increase in dues, the FPOA was able to pay all of its bills on time and had money enough left over to pay back the reserve that they had borrowed from in the previous year, so I do have a problem with such a high increase.
