As I posted in anothe girl's thread, I am a coach for cheerleading/dance at a local jr. high. I was a cheerleader althrough jr/sr high school and my squad won IA state 3 years in a row for our division.

I recommend confidence as the most important thing. Believe in yourself, I know it sounds cheesy.

Stretch daily to work on your flexibility. You do not always have to be able to tumble on all squads, but it is helpful for competition. If you absolutely cannot, work on your strength so that you can easily base stunts. ALso be a great dancer is you can't tumble, that is another option.

Smile always! Do not ever stop if you make a mistake! Keep going and keep your head up. Don't look directly at the audience but pick a point several inches or about a foot above their heads.

Point your toes whenever you jump!!! Work on getting height in your jumps and make them pretty. Practice motions in a mirror to watch your wrists and arm positions. Snap motions always.

Yell loudly but without screaming or becoming shrill.

Do your best, not matter if its just practice or the actual try-out.

Dress appropriately. White t-shirt and black shorts is always appropriate! A simple ribbon in your hair is nice too. Not too much make-up and NO JEWELRY!

Hope that helps!

Corie
