Hey, another letter posted in the National Post.

Tories take the long view

Re: Kiboshing Keystone, Tasha Kheiriddin, Feb. 26.
While Tasha Kheiriddin accurately describes U.S. President Barack Obama and his failings, she misses the mark by claiming the Conservatives made a fatal blunder in underestimating the importance he attaches to his legacy on the environment.

They recognized — as did unions, Republicans and many individual states — he would never move on the Keystone XL pipeline. Mr. Obama was trained by Saul Alinsky and his famous book, Rules for Radicals. The U.S. president does not compromise. He does not care 67% of Americans polled want the pipeline, as do unions, a major contributor to the Democratic party. He is an ideologue through and through.

To suggest, after he has been in power six years, Conservatives didn’t know that is naive. The reality is they continue to move the ball forward, despite Mr. Obama. Republicans have taken over the House of Representatives and the Senate, and his shelf life is just over two years. Their efforts will pay off — it is just a matter of time.
Jonathan Smith, Richmond Hill, Ont.
