I was at Udorn 1967-1975.
Does anyone remember the F-4C crash (lost hydraulics) in 2 October 1969? I was in the middle of it and saved 4 airmen who were in a 6-pack and hit by the F-4. They were on fire and unconcious. I was standing beside the C-130 at the time. The C-130 was also hit, but sustained only minor damage.

Stationed at Udorn from Nov 68 thru Nov 69. Was assigned to 432 FMS Crash Recovery crew. Working that day, Was assigned to operate 50 ton Turn Pull crane. Another A1c was supposed to be assigned to Crane, but he was late that morning. There were 4 men in Dodge Power Wagon. A Master Sgt, a Tech Sgt and two A1c's. The one that was late took my position in the truck, and he was killed in the crash. He had just re-enlisted and had a new born son he never got to see. The Master Sgt was killed along with the A1c, the Tech Sgt had his back broke and died 4 years later at Willford Hall hospital in San Antonio. Lost good friends that day. A Fire Department pickup was also struck by that F4, minor injuries. The F4 had lost partial hydrolics from close explosion of a SAM. I watched the crash from the Crane and go to the site after truck had been turned back on to it's carriage. Popped canopy's and pinned the ejection seats on the F4 so Firemen could extract Pilot and Rear operator. Rotated back to States late 69. Finished my time and got out of AF.
