Hi everyone I hope I'll be able to answer the number of allowable rod per anglers question and that it make sense to you all. If you have any suggestions e-mail me. Remember as well that my family and I will fish under the same set of guidelines. Pleasing everyone will be difficult. The policies are simply designed around finding a middle ground
that we all can live with while having a good time fishing.
Believe me when I tell you I'm not trying to pretend I know everything about salt water fishing. In fact sometimes I wonder if I know anything at all. This information is a general format for those New to saltwater fishing or fishing on OCP.

Consideration # 1 was, how does one(ME)increase the allowed limits of rods on Ocean Crest for King Fisherpersons and how the new "King" fishing rules tie in.

I suppose covering the new "King Fishing Rules" should be first thing I do but that will have to wait. I believe as well that you will be pleased with them.....

Question what does OCP consider a (Typical)Bottom Rod.

I'll go ahead and ask the 1st question before you do....how would a person judge a Bait Rod from a Bottom rod, when any fish swimming around in the water could be caught on either and be used as bait or as well eaten. I think the answer is the question. Most often the terminal tackle....Rigging etc...is somewhat different. Salt Water Bottom fishing typically requires the angler to use "hooks baited" with natural or artificle bait. Typical fish caught On OCP while bottom fishing....Every Species known to man. Excluding (Threadfins,Greenbacks,Menhaden).

Bait Examples: Minnows-dead or alive-whole or parted, Worm or grub- artifical or real, Crab -alive or dead-whole or parted, Shrimp-alive or dead-whole or parted. Fish parts, Sand fleas,Barnicals..etc,etc.......Heck you folks know more about fishing than I do..... I'm sure you get the picture. The point is management believes you should be able to fill in your time while (live bait- King Fishing). Sometime conditions just are'nt right for Kinging , Die-hards or anglers true to the "ART" still set up anyway just in case. At least you have the option to bottom fish anywhere on the Pier with-out buying another bottom pass while King fishing...confusing Huh! (Refer: to past OCP Policies).anyway....next item

What is considered a (Typical) "Bait Rod" on OCP?

Answer: The rod you'll use to Plug or Jig fish with. Examples Of typical fish species caught on OCP while Pluging or Jigging are ..Bluefish,Pinfish,Threadfins,Greenbacks,Ribbonfish,Menhaden,Trout,Flounder,Spanish,Kings.
Eating your catch is optional. Please do not ask me if I eat Menhaden......

The simpler Point is having options.

I personally believe the 4 rod option allows you the chose of bringing One lighter rod and One heavier rod capable of fishing for drum and sheephead with.

* The earlier policies on the Pier only allowed (3)Fighting,Anchor,& Bait rod. .....Thanks. Dave
