Question of the week (2nd February 2003) -- Julie, 16:26:08 02/02/03 Sun
Yesterday we went to the theatre to see "Calamity Jane". As always when I see a musical I come out wishing I could perform in one. It's a crazy wish as I can't sing, or dance, and I wouldn't have the confidence to appear in front of other people in any case!
What job would you like to do if you weren't doing what you're doing now?

Question of the week (24th November 2002) -- Julie, 08:46:11 11/24/02 Sun
This week's question comes from Zarina.
"I had a question for the forum but wasn't sure if it had been done before. . . I went to the Hobbycraft show yesterday and although I had a list, I still bought things I didn't intend to (they were bargains - promise!). I just wondered whether self control goes out of the window with anyone else and whether it's just where stitching is concerned! For me it's almost everything - I managed to spend over £150 in Victoria's Secret when I went to New York and buying just the one dvd is almost impossible!
Thing is, where the stitching (and computer games) are concerned - I'm not going to live long enough to get through everything in my 'to do' cupboard! Also, there's always so much to do that most of the time if it wasn't for the time spent at the stitch club, I wouldn't stitch from week to week!
- Zarina"

October is always my "Month from H*LL" at work. I had to do vision screenings for all 3 year olds in a two county area. On top of that, my Mom was in the Intensive Cardiac Care Unit then transferred to Step-Down. I finally brought her home Wednesday. :(
The only good thing was that I could work on my exchange ornaments in the hospital at night when Mom slept.
I promise that I'll get the "Six Degrees of Separation from Julie Murphy" sent to everyone soon. If you haven't emailed me or Julie with how you began stitching in the roundrobins, please do. So far, I have the info from 12 people.

- Cross-Stitcher December 2002 -- Zarina, 12:56:25 10/13/02 Sun
If you don't subscribe and haven't already bought this then try to see if your local Sainsburys stocks it.
Even though it's not supposed to be out until 16 October I bought it yesterday and had a surprise. I don't buy every issue, just the ones that appeal. Although usually £2.99 the additional 'gift' of the cat calendar has pushed the cover price to £3.99. Not in Sainsburys it seems! They must have entered the price as £2.99 into their system so when the girl scanned it, that's what came up and that's what I've paid.
Now if this is set by a head office then theoretically it will be the same at all branches. So if you buy it at Sainsburys and still pay £3.99, well you haven't lost anything but if the price scans wrongly - well, you've got a bargain!

Question of the week (6th October 2002) -- Julie, 08:10:30 10/06/02 Sun
Cats or dogs - which make the best pets?
[ Post a Reply to this Message ][ Edit | View ]
Replies:
- Well, growing up I had both and preferred the dog. Taffy was a collie - bright and affectionate. Kitty was an ex-farm cat who wasn't much interested in human contact. It's now a different story as we're owned by four cats. They're great company, each with their own very distinctive personality. Dogs would be harder work because of exercising them, plus they don't use a litter tray and you couldn't leave them alone for long. (NT) -- Julie, 08:26:12 10/06/02 Sun
- It has to be cats. It's something in the family. Everyone has 1 or 2 cats. After Willy died, it was hard to get another cat but we like to have 1 or even 2 now. I guess, we are almost ready to get a kitten. (NT) -- Miranda, 09:18:24 10/06/02 Sun
- Cat's definitely! Four beautiful cats are in charge of me and Ray, and we pander to their every whim! Actually, I think we're their pets, not the other way round. I like doggies, but I'd have to be at home all day to consider having one. -- Helen, 10:44:10 10/06/02 Sun

not use any type of scroll frame, Q-Snap frame, or hoop that rolled or went across the stitching area. When the shop owner stitched this, she had a problem with the beads being pulled, broken, and the finish rubbing off.
When she stitched it over again, she used a stand frame to hold it until finished. Looks like I'll just be stitching it without a frame or hoop. I sure don't want to ruin it after putting all of the work into it.

Question of the week (29th September 2002) -- Julie, 08:28:40 09/29/02 Sun
We've been watching a DVD each evening to help to keep my mother-in-law entertained while she's here. "A Knight's Tale" was a popular choice, but "Vanilla Sky" left us all confused.
Are there any films you love to watch again and again? Which are your three favourites?

I've been naughty! -- Helen, 10:02:06 09/22/02 Sun
Even though I've got enough stitching stash to last for centuries, I just "had" to bid for the Lavender and Lace Celtic Christmas Angel on Ebay. Guess what, I won, now I "have" to buy the DMC's, specialist threads and beads don't I? When am I going to find time to stitch her, and where is she going to go when she's done. Who cares - she's gorgeous.
Have you ever "had" to buy a particular design?

Question of the week (22nd September 2002) -- Julie, 06:25:51 09/22/02 Sun
I've been following a special eating plan which is designed to help with my arthritis, and as an added bonus I've been losing weight on it. Yesterday, for the first time in years, I bought two pairs of jeans in size 12 - and they fit!
What was your biggest achievement this week?

Question of the week (15th September 2002) -- Julie, 07:52:35 09/15/02 Sun
Later this month I have my mother-in-law coming for a week's visit. I was wondering what sort of relationship you have with your mother-in-law, and if you are a mother-in-law what sort of relationship you have with your daughter-in-law.

Jo Verso -- Julie, 15:50:34 09/12/02 Thu
I've heard from a couple of people that Jo Verso, the cross stitch designer, has died in a car crash. Does anyone know if this is definitely true?

Question of the week (8th September 2002) -- Julie, 07:21:00 09/08/02 Sun
My sister-in-law and her family have just moved back to England to live. They're always on the move. In the past four years they have moved from England to Holland to France to Spain and now back to England.
Where have you lived?

- Until I was 18 I lived in a village in Derbyshire, England, about 6 miles from Chesterfield. From 18 to 22 I was at university in Durham. I married Paul and had a few weeks in Dorset where he was working at the time. We then moved back to Durham for a year. For the next 10 years we lived in a tiny village about 10 miles west of Durham. For the past 4 years we've lived in Glenfarg, Scotland. (NT) -- Julie, 07:31:03 09/08/02 Sun

- Competition -- Julie, 15:37:13 08/28/02 Wed
Zarina has sent details of a competition to everyone. I think that it would be a great idea for people to add any they find here. Here's a copy of her email.
"I don't know how many of you read Cross Stitcher but this month the major competition, to win £160 worth of Disney Kits from Royal Paris is a bit different as you don't have to fill in a coupon in the magazine to enter - you just send a postcard with your name and address. Also, there's nothing to say that you can't enter from abroad - so go for it! Even if you aren't a great Disney fan you could give them away, sell them and buy something you want or raffle them for charity. . . or, like so many of us would do - put them in your stitching cupboard in the 'to do' pile!
So, send a postcard with you name and address to arrive bt 18 September to
Royal Paris/Cross Stitcher 126 Giveaway
29 Monmouth Street
Bath
BA1 2DL"

Flexi hoops -- Helen, 17:27:11 08/27/02 Tue
Does anyone know of anywhere that sells small flexi hoops (preferably gold)? I need them for Christmas ornaments. I don't have a local needlework shop, and even my nearest one, 20 miles away, didn't have anything. I'm happy to order on-line.
