Russet looked up hopefully, feeling a bit better now that she knew Lady Blue wasn't blaming her for the failure. She wasn't just as sure about Scarface, though. But it was a comfort to know that at least her mother would be here for her, no matter what. She had always been kinder toward her family than Scarface was.
Maybe she could even persuade him to forgive Russet, once again.
"Yes, they are stupid!" agreed the young vixen with a nodd. "They seem more red than blue by how they act and speak. But I think there should be some foxes out here in the game wood. Perhaps I'll go searching for them next. If they live closeby they must certainly have heard of us."
She smiled, a little nervously "So... what's been going on while I was absent? I've just seen Bounder, he's grown quite tall. And he's found a mate too, they look fine together. Oh and I also heard about our new siblings. I bet father's very proud... do you think..." she began, when suddenly a nasty voice interrupted her.
A red vixen had crawled out of the bushes. Russet kind of remembered her from the old times, she was the one who had left that wimpy Farthing Fox to join her father army. Always had a bad temper, that one. But now she was openly criticizing her - and even worse, growling at her mother. [i]How dared she[/i]?
Her fur bristled slightly as she returned the growl, curling her lips upwards to show silvery white fangs.
"What's up, red coat? Maybe you're just pissed off because he's not pleased of your doings? If you're so good why don't you go and try and drag some foxes along, yourself. Maybe you will bump in a fox hunt too and some human will get a nifty little fur cape from that tail of yours!"
She motioned a little toward the red female, growling low in her throat, deliberately. With the corner of her eyes though she flashed a glance at Lady Blue, one that said "Please, let me deal with this". If she had failed to bring any new foxes in Scarface's army, at least she could trash this cheeky red for her arrogance. She had deserved it! "Come on, red fox. If you believe you are so better than I, prove it."
Her paws rigid, she bristled her coat in order to look larger and more impressive. She could pass above a red's mockery, but she wouldn't let Phoenix insult her nor dare to growl at the vixen that Russet believed was her mother. If it was a fight the older vixen wanted, well... she'd gladly give her one.
"Fight, red - or tuck your tail among your legs and never dare to cross path with my family again!" she snarled.
