Branberry had snuck away from her friends, but part of her regretted it. Out of pride, the sick town vixen had left the ditch where her son, his mate and his sons mates famous father had believed she was sleeping. The food they had bought her had given her some strength so, despite feeling horrible, she had crept away from their kindness. Now though, that strenght was ebbing. Part of Branberry cursed her foolish pride. Instead of allowing her friends to show kindness and getting healthy again, she had gone off alone without a word of thanks and for what? 'You could go back' a little voice in her head nagged, but she shook it off. She was unaccustomed to kindness. Being from town originally, Branberry had had no real dealings with the oath. She had borne cubs, but her relationship with their fathers had been more of a loose aquaintancship that anything else. So, when faced with others, one of which was her own offspring, trying to help her the town vixen was unsure how to respond. So, to save her pride (which she had felt was being damaged by relying on others) she had gone.
Branberry wandered what she was actually planning to do. She had discovered that her hunting skills were nothing special, especially not in her current condition. In fact, the only thing keeping her in this damp reserve was the idea of another mate and another litter of cubs. She almost laughed as she looked at her appearence. Who would want her now?
She made up her mind. She would go back to the town, if she could remember the way. She would forage like she had done before and perhaps return to the park when she looked her usual self. She set off, hobbling toward the park boundary but paused at the fence. In horror, she realised that she was far from the quickest route to the town. In fact, she was closer to the farm than anything. Her legs were shaking badly by now. She tried to think clearly. The farm meant humans, which meant leftovers, which meant easy scavanging. Perhaps she wouldnt have to go to the town.
She went to jump the fence but flopped into a feeble heap. Branberry sniffed painfully and tried to convice her injured pride that her actions were intentional. She was just taking a breather. She lay down shakily and panted, looking out toward the farm. She could see snow.
