After the fox left and a few hours of more fruitless wandering, it was not long before the weather took a turn for the worse. First came the rain, then the wind, and finally the cold. Tasker thought again of the old fox's words as he huddled closer shivering to the inside of a hollow log just large enough for him to get into. Looking out, Tasker could see that almost everything that had gotten wet had frozen over. It made the land look…lonely. Not many creatures were out and the thin coating of ice made even the trees look sad,he thought. His nose burned and he rubbed some ice off of it on one leg.

After a time, the skies cleared slightly, but the sunlight that came through was milky, not yet strong enough to warm things. Feeling numb and a little sleepy from the cold, Tasker decided it might be best to move while he could. Maybe his parents went to ‘red lands’ as the old fox had said wherever that was. Reluctantly, he ventured out into the icy landscape.
