] Date Posted: 15:46:39 12/09/10 Thu I was a sentry dog handler stationed at Udorn RTAFB in 1969. I handled Silver 41MO. I was diagnosed with merkel cell carcinoma in 2008 in my left calf and had extensive surgery at the site. A biopsy revealed a malignant tumor. One year later in a routine petscan a hotspot was found in my left groin oddly enough where the sentinel lymphnode was removed a year earlier. More surgery this time revealing a large malignant tumor the size of a carrot. In a VA Compensation and Pension Bulletin dated May 2010 Thailand vets were addressed with special emphasis on dog handlers. I assigned power of attorney to the DAV in Montgomery and won my case in 12 days, and was upgraded from 40% to 100%. I am at stage 3 cancer and have had 30 Radiation treatments at Keesler AFB Ms. I live in Fairhope, Alabama. I hope this posting may help other vets. I feel all of us who served in Thailand got a pretty raw deal when it comes to recognition and benefits. God bless you my brothers who served and if I may be of assistance please write me. Fred D.
