Of all the characters you have ever seen DHK portray, which was your personal favorite? Why?

(Hottie - this would have had to occur whilst you were awake!!)

Well...that really narrows it down! Sheesh!!!!

I would have to say Mark McCormick followed closely by Frank Ryan.

I would have to say Ben Cartwright. Something about him in that role gave me goosebumps.

I have to say that I like him in today's shows, he definitly gets better with age. When I see him in Law and Order in a suit, with that curly hair...WOW
Or in a cop uniform, Stranger in my Home...or Atomic dog in the jeans and sweatshirt working on the vintage blue GTO.
Even the scene in Citizen Cohn, when he played the senator from NJ....He was also darling when he played JFK with that Boston accent. I can't forget Gordon O'Connell in Labor of Love with that Irish accent, without a shirt on!!!!

Oh, well, I just like looking at him....

Now, you sound like my sister, she comes to my house to see his picture on top of the TV (I got it off Ebay). And my conversations always go back to a Danny topic!

She told me that there's a fine line between being a fan and a stalker.....hahahaha

She understands though! Her birthday is Aug.10th, just like Danny's...

You're cruel, Mem, cruel. One? One? How can you pick just one?

OK, OK. This is character, not looks, not size of the part, not screen time, not billing, not wardrobe or lack thereof, all of which are legitimate criteria by the way...

Although my first thoughts were Ben Cartwright and Mark McCormick, after I thought about it a while (and I thank you for that, Mem) I decided it's the character he played in that show about having a second chance...you know, the nasty director who has the heart attack and comes back as a gay dresser at a summer playhouse....that one. I chose it because he got to show a lot of different emotions and really played it to the hilt.

There's still Ben Cartwright and Mark McCormick, though....

PL:

I have a funny story to tell you about a beautiful 8x11 photograph of DHK that one of our lovely board sisters sent me last year.

I thought it would be funny to put it into a beautiful frame that my husband had bought me for Christmas with doubtless intentions for me to use it to encase a family photo. Without a word to anyone save my children who were ALL in on the big joke, I placed the photograph on our piano amidst all the other photos of family and friends.
We all waited anxiously for the Hub to notice but he did not; not for days, weeks... (just like a man - but that is another post for another day)

Anyway, all the kids kept taking their father into the music room for any reason they could come up with. He never had so much attention. They were all desperate for him to find the picture - but none wanted to be the ONE who told. What made it funnier was that everyone was staying at home more, even my 21 year old was visiting more often because no one wanted to be the ONE who was not at home when the big "boom" occured.

As time passed, we all imagined it would be a far bigger reaction than it could ever be and I started to worry that it might be sort of anticlimactic for the littler ones. One night, I thought of just telling him and putting on some big act for the kids...LOL

As fate would have it, that weekend we were entertaining our Pastor and his wife and some of the elders from our church. As it always happens with this group, we eventually ended up in the music room standing around (how did you guess) the piano. We all were having a wonderful time when out of the blue my husband's voice bellowed from the other side of the room, "HEY! What is this doing in here?"

Startled by his uncharacteristic tone, I turned to see him holding up the frame with the picture of DHK. The room went silent and everyone looked at me. I could feel my eyes bulge and the flush in my face. For a minute I just stood ther not knowing what to say - how to explain...

One person began to giggle and another to chuckle. I heard a laugh then I noticed everyone was laughing - including my kids.

Seems the joke was on ME.

OMG, that is SO funny!!!
I have to explain how there was nothing funny in my life in 2002. I had one tragedy after another and I have to admit that having Danny as a fantasy got me through alot.
I live alone and I found myself talking out loud many times, explaining to Danny what I was going through.
I'm glad to say that I'm getting my sense of humor back now...there's an adjustment period that we go through when a tragedy happens. All my friends were worried, even the church members kept sending me little sayings like - If God brought you to it, He will bring you through it! Nothing was comforting to me except Danny and The Ponderosa.
After I posted on the other Voy board - Ponderosa Magic - someone sent me a PM that everything in the world WOULD NOT be alright if TP returned....etc...
But inside my house is the only thing that I can control, the world will keep revolving, fighting, killing will continue in the world, but I don't have to watch it on the TV. I just put in a Danny film, and I'm happy.

PL --

I know exactly what you mean. A few years ago, I lost both my parents and a child and a friend all within a few months of each other. Then, just as I determined that I would get up every morning and face the day whether there was a reason or not, I learned that I had cancer.

For the first time in my life, even with the powerful Faith that I do have, I was in BIG trouble emotionally.

One day, there was a flicker of light in all the darknss; there was a movie and an Actor who turned my head. Suffice it to say I did some of my best writing during that time. I used that man and his incredible talents to inspire me when I thought I had lost inspiration. Did I believe, at that time, that it was the the Actor who got me through it? You bet I did! I even went to NY to see him perform in a play that summer. Do I know better now? Yes I do. Now that I am physically and emotionally sound, I know that God brought me to it and He did, in fact, bring me through it. That Actor was that character, in that movie, at that place in time, and it all touched me the way it did - by the Grace of God.

I will always have a very special place in my heart for that Actor... forever - and he will never know. That is the way it goes.

If DHK did for you, this last year, what that other Actor did for me back then, I know that you feel that you love him. I thank God for him that he was able to do his best so that it touched you the way that it did and was such an integral part in turning your life around.

I cannot imagine a better purpose for any actor to aspire to than this; to so touch someone that they are able to rally themselves back to their life. I cannot imagine a better testimony to his gift of acting than this.

I have a very strong faith too, and here I am trying to make sense to what happens in life. The only thing that I know is that God works through people.
I want to go to LA and see Danny in person, but my feet are giving me so much trouble...I'm praying for a miracle!
The one question that goes through my mind is, 'What would I say to him to explain what he means to me, and how he inspired me?" When you try to tell someone, they look at you like you're nuts or something.
I laugh at little things now, and find enjoyment with the everyday things in life, that I never would have noticed last year.

You guys are soooo right.
I started fantasizing as a child. I grew up in a home where my parents couldn't stand each other but stayed married anyhow...until I was in 11th grade.
My father was unhappy and took it out on us kids...we were punished severly for making mistakes...not being bad, well sometimes...but for making mistakes.
I was in a big hurry to get married...imagining what a happy family life would be. Because of that hurry and from me being sooo naive...I made one mistake after another.

Had I not had my 'pretend world' to get me thru...I don't know how I would have turned out.

I identified with celebrities and they were what I needed them to be.

This is a very natural thing to do...escape reality and go to a place in your mind where you are happy!

I have a very great life and family now...even tho it took years to get there and boy do I appreciate them!!!!
I thank God everyday for them!!!!

I think that we all go through a crazy childhood, I should write a book...... The depth of hurt that I experienced at 14, when my 15 yr old brother drowned is immeasurable. The scars took too many years to heal.
I love to escape from reality, and I find myself thinking exactly what you said: I identified with celebrities and they were what I needed them to be.
I cried so hard when Ben prayed at Marie's grave, Dear Lord, We know our beloved will rest at your side and have eternal peace and happiness. It is for us mortals left behind that we pray, as we are who need your guidance, now that the light of our lives has gone out.
Again Ben (Danny) touched a nerve in my soul...he IS what I need him to be!!!!

Mem, well said, many people have inspired me in my life to achieve things that I thought was totally impossible. This last summer, I never thought that I would walk again, but I've been walking through the snow and staying upright. Hopefully, within a few months this will all be behind me.
Thank's for the nice words, your encouagement and your friendship!!!

Awww, It is ok Sweetie. You are alright. I am here for you and I understand. I have prayed for you (you know that) that God would get you through all of your pain and worry about your feet and I know He is doing that. Soon you will be dancing. If DHK helped you - you might not believe this, but, in heaven, that is a blessing on him! Hopefully, he realizes where his talent comes from...

** You have turned my mourning into dancing, Lord! **

I agree with all of you. We all have our scars growing up, and alot of us did fantasize with TV fathers. I imagined Ben Cartwright was my dad for years. Having Hoss as a brother was great too guys. I love to see Danny in fatherly roles. I know he is doing the same for some young person out there. I am sure he is even having a good impression on his make believe sons on the show as well. No one can have too many fatherly examples. Especially if they are all as good as the Ben Cartwright one is. I did read in the Bonanza Gold though that Lorene Greene was so busy it didn't seem like he was there much for his kids. Unfortnantly I have a feeling that happens alot. The ones we fall in love with are so busy making movies and shows that I do feel bad for their real families. I love to hear when the actors say they take their families with them on shoots. I am sure going to Aussie Danny missed his family immensely, and it had to be a sacrifice for him. But it is his job, and actors and their wives know it comes with the job. But I still feel sad for them. But not everyone can have a 9-5 job and be home every evening. Alot of regular folks work second shift and don't see their kids much either. My husband worked 1st shift and I worked third for years so as not to need a baby sitter. You just make what time you have quality time. Which I am sure the actors do as well. Wow did I ramble or what. I am never this serious. LOL LOL Jenx:)
