I could, but I typically write stories and poems based on my own experience, and my own experience with ecstasy, and the experience of a large number of my friends, has been overwhelmingly positive. Besides the euphoria-inducing and aphrodisiacal properties, ecstasy gives you, for a short time, the feeling of being in love with everyone you encounter. This is nontrivial. We typically regard most people as pretty unlovable, and unless we are powerfully physically attracted to them, we're unlikely to spend much time worrying about their interests or their happiness. While high on ecstasy, one tends to want to help, befriend, assist and love everyone one meets. Such a radical change in perspective, while it doesn't leave permanent changes, does leave permanent memories. Any time I get pissed off at someone, I have to reconcile my anger with the realization that if I were on ecstasy, I would be in love with them.

I have no doubt that it is possible to overdose and die on ecstasy, but considering the cost of ecstasy, I can only imagine that would be a very expensive way to commit suicide. I have heard that unscrupulous dealers sometimes mix heroin and speed and sell it as ecstasy. That, of course, would be very easy to O.D. on. My friends and I are pretty careful about where we get our drugs, and have never had a problem. If one of us tries ecstasy and dies, or one of us has a friend who tries ecstasy and dies, I'll be sure and let you know. As it is, having tried the stuff repeatedly, and knowing its positive track record in therapists' offices before it was banned, and knowing the deceitful nature of US anti-drug campaigns, I am not inclined to worry overmuch.
