A large black dragon swoops down from the blue sky, landing with a gentle "thud". ?His rider dismounts and approaches the boys. He nods cheefully. "I'm Jarod, rider of Dimthoate. There is a Clutch on the Sands, and I have been told to collect any and every possible Candidate, so c'mon!" He leads them to the Black, assisting them to seat themselves before mounting and cueing Dimthoate to take flight. Shortly, they land and the three are deposited at the Sands.
