The pump on 'Boobytrap' (no. 033) was the same as you describe (until I had to replace it). The hex nut on top is indeed the filler but I had trouble getting fresh hydraulic fluid down into the resevoir as the filler hole is very small and air cant get out as you try to fill. Solved it by using a small funnel with a very thin pipe attached. Takes ages, but does work.
Fluid is available from any firm specialising in hydraulics. Have a look in yellow pages. They may be able to fit new seals, but my pump gave up the ghost. New one wouldn't fit in the same place, so put it in starboard locker.
But thats another story.
I'm hoping to make it to the Trail Sail meeting at Windermere in October.
