Subject: TS240 Roller Foresail Reefing

I have sailed my TS240 for many years using a wardrobe of 4 East Coast Racing foresails set on a foil. Most of my sailing is single-handed and I have begun to wonder if I would be better off with roller reefing. The last two seasons seem to have brought more wind variation with trips to the fore deck - I blame global warming and I tend to put off a sail change as long as possible in the hope it will not be necessary but that sometimes makes for a wet and difficult experience. Sometimes without a lot of searoom.

I have found it not unusual to go from No1 Genoa through No 2 to Working jib and back all in the day and I am not sure if a roller sail can cover all these - also the present sails do set well and most have full length luff which I believe is the key to the drive given. What have other owners experiences been if you have made a change - have you lost noticeable performance and what makes have been found good or not so good.

I have just fitted a Barton Boom Strut which has simplified mainsail reefing and handling having struggled for years without a topping lift and just a short cord and snap hook from the backstay. It has also helped single-handed foresail changing allowing easier depowering of the main while leaving the helm to my Tillerpilot.
