Thanks for the reply. A previous owner drilled a round hole just where you mentioned, which is now covered with a blanking plate. Could be the perfect spot.
Nimbus has wheel steering so the protection from the tiller would not apply but the ease of access would certainly make it an easy job and I like the idea of the cable coming in at the stern away from the high traffic area's.
