I had mine done a couple of years ago, cost about £18 per drum for 4 lewmar 16's. I had a quote for a pair of 40's for about £22 per drum. I had them done by a local plating company.
This results were very good and so far none of the plating has come off. The only thing to be careful of is the friction area, if the knurling pattern had worn the drum could end up too smooth to work efficiently. Mine were a bit smooth to start with as they are 33yrs old now but with enough turns on the drum they still work well. Lewmar were also offering a refurb service which was more comprehensive and dealt with the friction area but it was quite a bit more costly. Check the Lewmar site, that's where I found it.
