In reply to: Zafira 's message, "Re: Yet another with oil problem and rear brake release. Diesel Consumption?" on 13:06:22 01/13/03 Mon

I imported my 2.0Dti Zafira from Holland last year (saving £5K on UK list price). Here are my comments:

I have regularly checked the oil and in 7000 miles/8 months the level hasn't dropped more than a couple of millimetres on the dipstick. I was very careful to run it in properly though as I had read all about the oil consumption issue.

Fuel consumption (trip computer) is ~38mpg with mixed driving and ~44mpg at ~70mph motorway driving.

Engine sounds a bit tappety when cold and under load but otherwise is fine (noise is getting less pronounced as the mileage goes up).

Wipers are fine, but the Zafira has the same holes for the wiper arms for LHD and RHD models and they have optimised the wiper pattern for LHD cars (presumably because they are in the majority). This means that the left of the screen is cleared more thoroughly than the right. Not a big deal.

Rear brakes are OK. There is occasionally a slight squeak from the rear disks when reversing away, but they aren't binding.

The only problem I have had is the "Check Coolant Level" warning came on after about 6000 miles. There doesn't seem to be a leak and after consulting my dealer, I topped the coolant up very slightly and it's been fine ever since.

It's a great car, but the 2.0Dti engine is crap compared to the competition from Peugot etc. and the gearchange is a bit lumpy especially when the car is cold. I wish I had got the 1.8 Auto instead, especially as I haven't been doing the mileage I thought I would.
