I too am unfortunate enough to have an astra with the dreaded 2.0L dti engine fitted.I purchased this car on the basis that a cavalier i bought 12 years ago,has done over a 100,000 miles and has neverhad an oil top up between changes. Its never been inside a garage as I have managed to cope with all maintenance.I expected a more modern car to have been of similiar quality. The astra has done 17,000 miles in 18 months and I regularly put a litre of oil in every 1,000 miles. The engine sounds like something is about to burst through the block.A friend of mine who has been employed at a vauxhall franchise for over twenty years has informed me that the pistons pick up on the bores and he was even repairing a three month old astra with the same fault as we speak. He also basically told me that these days the customer does the testing.Lets just hope that top gear or the like pick up on it.
