[Hmm, this text box is too small for me to easily reread what I've written, which I would prefer to do before posting. Like to keep things in sequence. Oh well - embarrassment ho! Full speed ahead!]

Yes, I got it the first time, I think that's fair. Means that I'm not necessarily going to be able to find every name you use in a mythology book, I suppose. Duly noted.

Amusement.

Heh, thanks.

All that follows is speculation; while they're good ideas, I don't have strong evidence that they're what you intended. They're based on intuition more than anything else, which is why I wouldn't have shared them unless asked. Nonetheless they're part of how I've been interpreting the story thus far. So, without further disclaimers, ...

We've got the whole (dramatic italics) betrayal thing, which has come up twice now. To summarize my conclusions on it, the gods and goddesses of Earth are upset at how humanity has been ignoring them for a few centuries. Furthermore, the dead are upset at being left behind on Earth. (Dead people tend to be remarkably unwilling to accept change, for some reason.)

Since it seems that there is magic on Eridani-III, and the being who Soshi's been in contact with is able to reach her there, the gods themselves have not been left behind. Therefore they have no reason to feel specially betrayed.

What sort of being would have a reason to feel abandoned? One associated strongly with the Earth; with crops, with the land itself, and so on. That answers your first question. As I set these reasons down, I'm realizing the flaws - the being didn't seem at all upset with Soshi. Ah well.

Of course, there could be multiple factions of supernatural beings, but there's no reason to suppose that as yet. Until I have reason to believe otherwise, I'll assume that the being who Soshi visited in his house is either the same as, or allied with, whoever gave her the Mayan paper.

Not linked to wisdom or learning - well, I mentioned those categories because they were my first thought and I rejected them, finding the Earth explanation more attractive. I'm now starting to lean back toward them... The reason they occurred to me is that Soshi's just about the perfect follower of such a deity. I still don't think she's destined to become a follower, though... Therefore I don't think the being is specifically her patron deity, which makes him someone other than Wisdom/Learning.

>Priestess ;).

Oh, I assure you, I will. ^_^
